Roodepoort Primary situation 'not about race'

This morning clashes broke out between the parents and police when some of parents tried to force their way into the school.

Police and paramedics maintained heavy presence on the scene of yet another protest by parents of pupils at the school where as many as six people have been shot with rubber bullets.

On Monday, the community members met at the Davidsonville community hall to discuss a way forward after the department obtained a court order to shut the school down.

EWN's Ziyanda Ngcobo reported on the Midday Report that the clashes between the Davidsonville community and police broke out this morning, as police shot rubber bullets to disperse the protesting crowd. It was reported that 6 people were injured, two of whom were allegedly children.

There is a press briefing that has been arranged to take place this afternoon, to address the violence from this morning.

Listen to Ziyanda's conversation below:

Stephen Grootes spoke to Ronald Dyers is the spokesperson for the Davidsonville community forum, which has been involved in these demonstrations.

Dyers is adamant that the Davidsonville Community Forum members were not involved in inciting violence and that there are other members of the community were responsible, even though DCF members also got injured in the shooting by police.

He said that the crux of the matter is the principle of fairness in appointment of qualified staff at the school, with proper recruitment procedures followed.

Below is Ronald Dyers' interview with Stephen:
