A recent survey into nearly 500 JSE-listed companies conducted by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) has found progressive signs of transformation in the representation of CAs (Chartered Accountants) amongst the younger generation.
The majority of CFOs and CEOs remain white males, but the transformative trend amongst CAs is seen as an encouraging step, as noted by SAICA CEO, Terrence Nombembe.
Nombembe was also Auditor-General for seven years until the end of 2013:
What is exciting and important for us is that the momentum is moving forward and not going backwards. We have an unofficial slogan that says 'numbers count' and that says a lot for us, because once you understand things at a numbers level, you are able to translate your logic into something creative of value to you or any organisation you are in.
