Refugee boy's photo spurs European countries into action

Ray White today spoke to EWN's UK correspondent, Gavin Grey about the European refugee crisis after Aylan Kurdi's body was washed up on a Turkish beach and images of his lifeless body were circulated around the world. Aylan fled Syria with his father Abdullah, mother Riyana and four-year-old brother Galip to seek refuge in Greece.

Grey said follwoing Aylan's photo circulating in the UK a few days ago, a petition was created, calling on British politicians to do more. This petition received 300 000 signatures in three days and similar calls and actions are set to spread through Europe.

A few thousand refugees have since been taken into Britain, said Grey. There has been a call for refugees to not to be put in 'ghettos' but to integrate them into society. Grey also reported that German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, announced that Germany would take in 800 000 refugees. He added that while this would put pressure on Germany's infrastructure, Merkel said the country had a moral obligation to help.
