How can you get involved in your child’s education?

Being involved in your child’s education simply means attending PTA’s, helping out at school events or even being on school committees.

According to parental expert Nikki Bush, it doesn’t necessarily have to be all events and meetings that you are present, but enough to be notable. Having time to chat about schoolwork and working on projects with your child is vital, she says.

She says there has been a sharp increase in parents who are distancing themselves from their children’s education and leaving it all up to schools alone.

Studies show that parental involvement has a powerful impact on a child’s academic achievement.

Nikki Bush says that education and child development is not a destination but an ongoing journey.

She further said that parents should make sure they are there for their children as much as they can and be visible enough.

Some excuses parents give:

  • I work full time and simply don’t have time
  • I pay a lot of money for my child’s education and the school should do it

As parents we need to position ourselves as heroes in their life’s story

Nikki Bush - Parenting expert

According to Bush parent’s needs to start their involvement as early as preschool and don’t wait till they are older.

The sooner involvement starts the more powerful the effects
