NCSPCA stands against 'driven hunt' scheduled to take place in Limpopo

Television series Carte Blanche aired an episode that exposed a practice known as a “driven hunt” which is to take place near the town of Alldays in Limpopo province.

Apparently in “driven hunt”, hundreds of wild animals including baboons, warthogs and antelope are corralled into a 1.2 mile stretch of land and be slaughtered.

A team from the National Council of SPCA’s approached the magistrate office for a warrant to gain access to the farms in Limpopo to stop the driven hunt.

The NSPCA says although the practice is legal it is unethical and inhuman.

The hunt will last for one week; unfortunately the NCSPCA could not stop the first day of the hunt which went on as planned.

CapeTalk's John Maytham spoke to Ainsley Hay,Manager of the national Wildlife Protection Unit: NSPCA

We have a warrant for four days and we can’t be denied access to the property. We going to use the warrant to observe and gather evidence.
