YOU Magazine’s "bald" response to public outcry

YOU Magazine Editor, Linda Pietersen responds to the public outcry over the cancer feature in the magazine's latest issue, where celebrities are pictured with hair that was shaved using Photoshop in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

The controversial campaign has received both negative and positive responses from the public and celebrities who were involved. 5FM DJ, Poppy Nthsongwana who was a part of the campaign told 702 that had she known the magazine would shave off her hair using Photoshop she would have sent in a photo of her hair shaved off.

Colin from Pretoria

Pietersen’s response was that for cancer awareness month the magazine wanted to really get people talking about the issue, and they decided to try something different

Obviously we can’t ask celebrities to shave their heads because this is how they make their money, this is their livelihood. Our idea was to get them to shave their heads via Photoshop and to support and get people talking about the cancer issue …
