Should children be given trophies for just participating?

James Harrison, an American National Football League player, caused a social media tempest when he wrote on Instagram about how he was returning his two sons’ participation trophies.

Harrison expressed his disagreement with the idea that someone would receive an award for not being the best, for not earning it.
