Nakedi Ribane - from actress to Advocate

Former model and actress Nakedi Ribane has added a new title to her name, she is now a qualified advocate, at the age of 59.

Ribane recently graduated with an LLB degree and was admitted at the Pretoria Bar as an advocate.

She is best known for her role as Senthaolele in the 1980’s Sepedi TV drama Bophelo ke Semphekgo and has since appeared in numerous local and international television series, including Molo Fish, Soul City and the mini-series Mponeng.

Speaking to CapeTalk/702’s Redi Tlhabi, Ribane says becoming an advocate was her first love but when it didn’t happen, she resorted to acting and modelling. She says people who dodn’t give up on their dreams inspired her to go back to school to complete her studies.

Ribane also gets her inspiration from her mom who also went back to studying after she raised Ribane and her siblings.

Ribane also wrote a book, Beauty: A Black Perspective (2006). It received much acclaim for tackling images of beauty from a perspective not often heard in the gruelling fashion and beauty industry.
