'Killing a person with albinism will not make you rich. Stop the killing'

September is Albinism Awareness Month. The department of Health provides information on albinism to make people more aware of what this condition is about.

CapeTalk's John Maytham spoke to Terry-Ann Adams, a 22-year-old who was born with albinism, and has low vision.

Listen to the conversation below:

Adams says she has not allowed the challenges she has experienced to limit her abilities and stop her from achieving her goals.

She is an honours degree student at the University of Pretoria. She has experience as a radio presenter and also works as a model.

Adams says she was often teased as a little girl by her schoolmates.

A lot of times I was bullied; school kids attempted to make me brown by pouring charcoal on me

Terry-Ann Adams

She says her family learnt about what albinism is, and supported her to become a strong and independent adult.
