How the Mineworkers Investment Company changes the lives of its beneficiaries

The Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) is celebrating its 20th birthday.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed James Motlatsi, an MIC founding member, and former CEO Paul Nkuna. Watch the interview below:

They discussed the following:

  • JB Marks Education Trust

  • JB Marks’ bridging programme (helping students from poor backgrounds assimilate and succeed at tertiary institutions)

  • Their views on education challenges in South Africa and the Trust’s role in improving prospects for children of mineworkers.

  • Challenges of rural South Africa, and the mineworkers’ development agency’s role in the areas that it operates in (including success stories such as the nursery programme in Lesotho)

  • The EBMTC (training college) and the importance of "on the job skilling" (including some case studies)

  • Helping small enterprises and entrepreneurs (including the farmer’s programme, the Emalahleni incubator partnership with Raizcorp, etc.)
