Zuma's cabinet reshuffle raises questions

Not much known about Minister Mosebenzi Zwane

There's always some surprise whenever President Jacob Zuma reshuffles his cabinet. This time there is some surprise at the new Minister of Mineral Resources, Mosebenzi Zwane.

Zuma has also appointed former Mineral Resources Minister, Ngoako Ramatlhodi, as the new Minister for Public Service and Administration.

Stephen Grootes unpacked this appointment with mining analyst Mamokgethi Molopyane.

Listen to the conversation below:

Mail & Guardian senior journalist, Sam Sole, also weighed in on the controversy surrounding Zwane.

702's John Robbie spoke to Grootes about the cabinet reshuffle and in particular, Zwane.

Listen to the conversation below:

Reshuffle could raise public speculation

Grootes said it remains unclear why Zuma did not fill the post after Zwane's predecessor, Collins Chabane, died in March.

I am slightly surprised that this appointment has been made now. The real question will be: Why have these particular appointments been made and what will the impact be?

Stephen Grootes, 702 Presenter & EWN Reporter

According to Grootes, the announcement will frustrate the mining industry and raise suspicions about the reasoning behind his appointment.
