SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has had a salary increase of nearly R1 million in the last financial year.
The public broadcaster’s annual report tabled in Parliament showed that Motsoeneng's salary went up from R2,8 to R3,7 million.
Eyewitness News reporter Rahima Essop, speaking to 702's Xolani Gwala today, said the increase came as a surprise given Motsoeneng's legal battles.
Motsoeneng's R912 000 salary increase included a bonus of R279 000.
The Democratic Alliance said there was no justification for such an enormous hike, especially as other public sector workers, including nurses, teachers and police received only seven percent over the same period.
Motsoeneng was permanently appointed COO despite Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's findings against him.
