Police have announced that they made a breakthrough in arresting suspects who they believe have been involved in numerous crimes and robberies around the country.
The arrest of the syndicate has been labelled as a success, with police thanking companies and everyone who got involved in putting the strategy together the strategy to have the criminals arrested.
Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo said the problem is compounded by the fact that some members of the SAPS are part of the syndicate.
Police said the criminals specialised in truck hijacking and car theft, adding that they worked with inside information on some of their operations.
Police said most common targets in the attacks were jewellery and cellphone outlets, adding that more people were likely to be arrested.
Naidoo said some of the suspects were involved in numerous crimes across the country and they worked with cellphone companies to give them details on when deliveries were going to take place.
Police said with increased vigilance and cooperation from relevant stakeholders, they could make more arrests and send a clear message to criminals.
