Anti-corruption marches to kick off in Pretoria and Cape Town

Support for the anti-corruption march led by former Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has grown over the past few weeks with trade union Solidarity announcing its participation.

Other civil society organisations hoped to get up to 100 000 people to partake in anti-corruption demonstrations at the Union Buildings in Pretoria and Parliament in Cape Town.

Around 30 organisations, including Sonke Gender Justice, Section 27, Amnesty International and Oxfam said they would support the march.

The entire Solidarity Movement, which comprises 18 institutions and around 310 000 people, was also due to demonstrate.

According to Mark Heywood, a march organiser and an executive director at Section 27, only collective effort wwould bring about the change that South Africans desperately wanted.

Corruption runs through all parts of our society and we are united by it. If there's one thing we have to stand together to overcome, it's corruption.

Mark Heywood, march organiser and executive director at Section 27

Listen to the full conversation from The Redi Tlhabi Show:
