Dianne Kohler Barnard apologises for reposting PW Botha comments

The Democratic Alliance’s Shadow Minister of Police, Dianne Kohler Barnard, has apologised for sharing a Facebook post on her timeline, which contained controversial remarks about PW Botha.

The DA MP said she shared a Facebook status by Paul Kirk two weeks ago without fully reading the content.

PW Botha then became a top trending topic on Twitter, with many expressing outrage over the wishes to resurrect the former prime minister.

Barnard said she does not share Kirk's sentiments about PW Botha and was only supporting the views with regards to Johan Booysen.

It was an error. I apologise again, for sharing this man's post on Facebook. I don't know who shared it on Twitter. But whoever reads it must know that I would never endorse such a thing in my life.

The DA will investigate the controversial Facebook post and says the shadow minister could face possible disciplinary action.

The post claimed during Botha’s reign, education, health and the police service were better than they are now.

Party leader Mmusi Maimane, called the post ‘indefensible’ and former DA leader Helen Zille has also slammed her justification.
