In 2010, Panjo and his owner Goosey Fernandes made headlines when the 17-month-old tiger escaped from the back of his owner’s bakkie on the way to a visit to the vet.
Goosey Fernandes’ wife, Rosa Fernandes, called into EWN’s Traffic Desk and reported to Aki Anastasiou that she and her husband had been driving to the vet with their pet tiger the night before and realized when they arrived at the vet that the tiger had escaped, at the end of the call Rosa casually mentioned a few interesting details about the family's pet cat.
He weighs 140kg, has mighty sharp teeth, paws the size of a baby’s head and – while we’re talking about babies – he doesn’t particularly like children. But he’s really nice and likes to eat chicken.— Rosa Fernandes, Panjo the Tiger's owner
When the news broke that somewhere along the R25 between Groblersdal and Bronkhorstspruit, a 17-month-old tiger was on the prowl a huge search party ensued to find the missing pet.
Panjo was on the run for 2 days and 3 nights before he was found near Bronkorstspruit, in the east of Pretoria.

Earlier this year Panjo again made headlines after he was caught on camera taking "Sky the Jack Russell" for a walk:
Xolani chatted to Panjo's owner Goosey Fernandes for an update on how the old tiger is doing nowadays.
