Motsoeneng ruling will have a bearing on ANC's NGC - Malala

The ANC's fourth national general council (NGC) started on Friday, where the governing party’s major policy think-tank reviews the implementation of the 2012 Mangaung conference resolutions.

Compared to the previous two events, the lead-up to this NGC was relatively quiet, but several political outcomes in South Africa this week could affect the event's agenda.

This is according to political commentator Justice Malala, who spoke with Debora Patta about the potential dynamics that can help predict the NGC proceedings.

There has never been a week like this in South African politics; external factors will have a bearing on the NGC.

Malala said the Supreme Court of Appeal decision to dismiss Hlaudi Motsoeneng's appeal and the severe dip in South Africa's business confidence will affect the focus of the NGC.

He explored what its implications for Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's office and her recommendations in the Nkandla report.

These are the two overriding shadows of this conference, if the ANC can't deal with these realities, South Africans will remain unsatisfied.
