In one of his first public appearances as the new Chair of the Independent Electoral Commission, Vuma Glenton Mashinini set the record straight on doubts around his appointment.
Mashinini’s appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Presidency as the preferred candidate taking over from the former Chair, Advocate Pansy Tlakula. This appointment has however been met with some opposition, due to his previous appointment as President Zuma's Special Projects Advisor.
Mashinini told Cape Talk/ 702's Stephen Grootes that he he does not believe that he would be able to influence the outcomes of the elections and emphasises the merit of his appointment - based on his professionalism and contribution to building the IEC.
