'Squalor in Kya Sands is a crime against humanity' - John Robbie

In October 2015, 702's John Robbie followed up a listener's call to visit Kya Sands to see the dilapidated state that the community lives under.

John went on a walk-about of the north west of Johannesburg informal settlement, Kya Sands on the 19th October 2015. He reported that the conditions there are 'appalling', filthy (from illegal dumping), over-crowded and that he wouldn't be surprised if disease broke out of there. There are constant power outages due to cable theft, especially at the business parks nearby.
