Lumkani is a social enterprise that seeks to address the challenge of shack fires in urban informal settlements in South Africa and across the globe.
Under the directorship of David Gluckman, Lumkani uses modern technology to decrease the risk of devastating fires in informal settlements.

He says smoke detectors would have rendered useless.
Listen to Gluckman explaining how the heat detector works and how it has decreased shack fires in informal settlements.
