Over 1 200 reports of corruption at SA schools in three years - Corruption Watch

Corruption at South African schools is widespread, according to a report released by Corruption Watch.

Titled 'Loss of Principle', the report reveals that school principals and school governing bodies (SGBs) are implicated in more than half of the reports received by the organisation.

Corruption Watch's Leanne Govindsamy said the Free State, KZN and Gauteng had the most reports of corruption.

Listen to the full conversation from The Redi Tlhabi Show:

Govindsamy said corruption at schools takes form in financial mismanagement as well as direct theft of school resources.

According to Troy Martens, spokesperson for the Department of Basic Education, many parents are often scared to come forward to report cases of corrupt activity in schools.
