How the 'Vuyo’s Wors' ad inspired Miles Kubheka to create the Vuyo's franchise

The Money Show's Bruce Whitfield interviewed Miles Kubheka, the entrepreneur behind Vuyo’s, for his weekly "Shapeshifter" feature.

Kubheka is the founder of Vuyo’s, a chain selling “real South African chow”.

Miles Kubheka was inspired by fictional character Vuyo and his business Vuyo’s Original Wors in the well-loved Hansa beer ad.

Vuyo’s Miles Kubheka is also the co-owner of an IT software solutions company.

Vuyo’s menu includes local favourites such as boerewors rolls, idombolo, bunny chow and vetkoek.

Miles Kubheka also runs Vuyo’s branded carts that operate in front of selected Spar stores.

Scroll down for quotes from the audio below.

It’s better to ask forgiveness than permission. I never asked SABMiller if I could use ‘Vuyo’!

Our food trucks are funding our business!

Miles Kubheka

I nearly went bust. My ego held me back from doing what I needed to do, which was to close my first restaurant.

Miles Kubheka

Food is not a ‘mom and pop’ thing! It’s run by corporations. The business model works on scale.

Miles Kubheka

We get about four requests for a franchise per day. The interest is amazing!

Miles Kubheka

We do modern African chow.

Miles Kubheka

We all eat the same stuff in South Africa. We serve you the food you grew up eating.

Miles Kubheka

The cost of getting into food trucks are not too prohibitive.

Miles Kubheka

We do a lot of corporate events.

Miles Kubheka

Our biggest risk is growing too fast.

Miles Kubheka

Banks are tripping over themselves to finance us.

Miles Kubheka

It’s painful; but take the risk!

Miles Kubheka

Our presence in Vilakazi Street gives us street cred.
