Why racism has kept black lawyers out of work

The Johannesburg Bar Council is due to discuss whether it should be considered unprofessional conduct if a team, of three advocates working on one legal case, does not have at least one black advocate among them.

Stephen Grootes spoke to Chairperson of the Johannesburg Bar Council, Advocate Dali Mpofu about the roots of the issues.

Adv Mpofu explains that this is largely due to racism that manifests itself in various forms; such as a notion that black advocates are incompetent. He insists that equal training is provided for all advocates, across races.
