Black Filmmakers Festival tackles need to open up the industry

A collective of filmmakers is addressing the need to provide platforms for Black filmmakers to showcase and celebrate their work.

The Black Filmmakers Festival hosts monthly film screenings in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

According to Black Filmmakers Festival founder and director Simbi Seam Nkula, the films that are screened are those in which Black filmmakers have played a major role.

Nkula says that the festival also hosts workshops and talks to upskill and expand platforms for Black filmmakers.

Speaking to #NightTalk's Lovelyn Nwadeyi, Nkula says that Black filmmakers in the country experience challenges of breaking into the industry and getting recognised for their work.
