The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein has heard the State's appeal against Oscar Pistorius' culpable homicide conviction. The prosecution is presenting its case before five judges (led by SCA president Judge Lex Mpati).

Stephen Grootes spoke to EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides, who gave an update on the proceedings at the SCA, where the intent behind the killing of Pistorius' girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is under scrutiny.

One of the arguments revolved around whether Pistorius really believed his life was in danger when he heard a noise in the toilet cubicle.

Criminal law expert Tyrone Maseko also explained the appeal with reference to the Seekoei case, which was cited in court.

Judge Thokozile Masipa erred in applying the principle of 'dolus eventualis'

The State feels that Pistorius should have been convicted of murder and be sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison. State prosecutor Gerrie Nel believes that Judge Thokozile Masipa erred in applying the principle of 'dolus eventualis' and that the athlete must be convicted of murder.

Criminal law expert William Booth, speaking to 702's John Robbie, unpacked the State's line of argument.

Judgment was reserved.
