A lawyer for the Sowetan newspaper has reportedly written to the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) asking the commission to open up its hearings into the commercialisation of religion.
The commission’s chairperson, Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, on Tuesday told Stephen Grootes that the hearings were to be held behind closed doors.
Stephen Grootes spoke to the Sowetan's editor, Mpumelelo Mkhabela, about why the newspaper feels that the hearings should be open to the public.
