All you need to know about fibre broadband and the latest Telkom rollout

High-speed fibre connectivity and open access internet are moving into the mainstream of South African homes.

The increasingly popular transmission medium makes internet more accessible and improves broadband services.

Telkom's wholesale division, Openserve recently announced an optic fibre rollout in Bryanston and other suburbs of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth.

MD of Openserve, Alphonzo Samuels, and Telkom's Prenesh Padayachee unpacked the benefits of fibre optic connectivity, internet speeds, availability, rollout and associated costs.

Listen to the full conversation from The Redi Tlhabi Show:

Samuels said they plan to reach one million homes with fibre access by 2018 and have the largest fibre network in the country.

If you talk about high-speed services and ultra high definition (HD), fibre connectivity is the answer.

Alphonzo Samuels, Managing Director of Openserve at Telkom

More than 10 000 Pretoria East homes will have access to fibre technology by end December 2015, making this area the latest in the company’s fibre rollout strategy.

Openserve was launched earlier this month as part of Telkom’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its focus on the customer and the customers’ needs.
