It's official, the country is facing a major challenge with water shortages.
In Joburg, residents are now not allowed to fill up pools or water gardens during the day. The city is warning that if people don’t cut back on the amount of water they use, some areas could be cut off for parts of the day.
'Cut back on water usage or we'll cut you off...'
All of this comes as the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation warns of drought conditions, while farmers say their crops and animals are in danger.
Stephen Grootes spoke to Professor Mike Muller at the Wits Graduate School of Public Development about whether restrictions are the best approach to manage water usage.
