Paris has been victim of a bombing attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) just days after a bombing in Beirut, Lebanon, and a Russian passenger jet was downed over Egypt after Moscow launched air strikes in Syria, targeting ISIS.

It looks like we are being pushed unwillingly into an area of compromise – in an effort to root out people who pose physical harm. I don’t know how societies will deal with this, but it is a concern.

This is where leadership is necessary. Leaders need to separate themselves from the emotional fray. Over longer haul, a political solution of some kind is needed… which will involve the West playing a lesser role in the Islamic region. In the short run, there are no easy answer.
