Zuma tries to set record straight, raises more questions
The ANC released a statement on their website by President Jacob Zuma, in which he says that his love of the ANC does not mean that his love for the country is any less.
The statement was a supposed explanation for the comment that he made 10 days ago - that for him the ANC comes before the country.
Stephen Grootes on Tuesday spoke to political analyst Ralph Mathekga about this statement.
Listen to the conversation below:
This was supposed to try and clarify. The statement doesn’t clarify at all. It, in fact shows a warped understanding of the party and the state. Taking oath as president has certain obligations above the party. It actually raises concerns about whether the president understands the constitution.Ralph Matshekga, Political Analyst
