DA leader Mmusi Maimane had to answer questions from Twitter users who expressed concern about his opinion on the University of Stellenbosch's language policy.
What I will not allow in South Africa is the re racialization of our people for political populism and polarization. It must be one nation— Mmusi Maimane (@MmusiMaimane) November 17, 2015
702 and Cape Talk's Gugs Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo on Wednesday invited Maimane to explain his views on #NightTalk.
Maimane made the point that students at the University of Stellenbosch who wish to be taught in English should have the opportunity to do so.
We cannot build universities that are exclusive, that is my point. The point is to expand rather than decrease the number of languages at our universities.— Mmusi Maimane, DA leader
You want to study in English at Stellenbosch; that opportunity must be made available for you ... We are not in the politics of reduction; we are in the politics of increase.— Mmusi Maimane, DA leader
