SABC board to appear before Portfolio Committee on Communications

Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Communications, Humphrey Maxegwana, says the SABC board will appear before the Committee.

The appearance pertains to reports that Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been reappointed by the public broadcaster and has been paid a bonus between R10 million and R11 million.

It is not clear whether Motsoeneng is still the chief operating officer at the SABC following the Supreme Court of Appeal decision to dismiss his leave to appeal a High Court ruling that his permanent appointment should be set aside.

Maxegwana insists that they cannot act on media reports, but have to meet with the SABC board.

He also says that everyone should respect the rule of law, including state enterprises.

We hold the board accountable on what the SABC is doing, and this is what we are going to do in the next two weeks.
