ANC looking for scapegoat in IEC blame game?

The African National Congress (ANC) has denied claims of being involved in a behind the scenes tug of war with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The party dismissed the claims saying they are baseless and that it would never put pressure on the organisation.

Stephen Grootes, EWN senior political correspondent says he doesn't understand why the ANC is upset over losing three metros in last month’s local government elections. He says the writing was on the wall.

Grootes said the days for special treatment for the ANC are over and it needs to behave like any other party in the country.

He referred the IEC as the referee in political parties match and says rules need to be outlined defining the realtionship between parties and the IEC.

The ANC reportedly attacked deputy IEC Chair Terry Tselane and referred to the institution as the enemy.

Grootes says the election system has many mechanisms, checks and balances in place.

Really it is very hard to try and put pressure on Terry Tselane and see if the election results changes, it simply doesn't work like that...
