Donald Trump looses his cool during first presidential debate

United States presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton met for their first presidential debate yesterday.

Clinton pushed Trump onto a difficult defensive position over his tax avoidance and accused him of sexism and racism.

Midday Report's Stephen Grootes spoke to Daily Maverick associate editor and US Correspondent, Brookes Spector, about the debate.

In one point he said I have been out campaigning when my opponent has been preparing for this debate, and she said 'yes I have been preparing for this debate just like I have been preparing to become president'.

Brookes Spector, Daily Maverick associate editor and US Correspondent

Trump somehow forgot that you don't win the elections by making the people already in your corner in your corner, you win by making people who haven't made their minds yet to be on your side.

Brookes Spector, Daily Maverick associate editor and US Correspondent
