Ombudsman would stamp out dodgy funeral parlours

Funeral Industry Regulatory Authority (Fira) urges the government to establish an ombudsman body to regulate funeral industry.

A code of conduct proposed by Fira is currently in the Government Gazette and opened for public comment until October 2.

Fira executive chairman, Johan Rousseau, says the lack regulation in the industry leads to exploitation of consumers.

Among other things, the proposal calls for an establishment of an ombudsman and members not to produce false advertising and commit fraud.

Emphasising and putting the Ombudsman in place that will cater for public's best interests, we must take into consideration that the public is being affected.
