Cloud over Hlaudi's future at embattled SABC

The parliamentary portfolio committee on communications will summon the SABC (South African Broadcast Corporation) Board to account for the rationale behind appointing Hlaudi Motsoeneng in a management role.

Motsoeng was removed from his position as the SABC's Chief Operating Officer, but was recently appointed as group executive.

Responding to the furore over his new appointment, he revealed that he would re-apply for his old position.

Our role is to call the SABC board to answer questions to the committee so we speak from an informed position, directly from the people who are responsible for the SABC.

Motsoeneng has been embroiled in a litany of scandals over his position, which resulted in the Supreme Court of Appeals dismissing his appeal against a Cape Town high court ruling that his appointment was invalid.

In a fiery media briefing on Tuesday, the former COO said he believed in himself and would continue to "perform miracles" at the public broadcaster.

This is a parliament that deals with the the people who account to us, in this case that is the Minister of Communications and the SABC Board.
