Visitors turned away from Table mountain due to strike

Wage negotiations between Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) and staff has reached an impasse. Cableway staff affiliated to Saccawu are demanding a 15% salary increase while the company is offering 9%.

Protesters are reportedly blocking access to the cableway on Tafelberg Road.

Collette Van Aswegen marketing manager of Table Mountain Cableway says the police are on the scene and turning visitors away, while redirecting traffic.

According to Aswegen, members of staff who are not affiliated to Saccawu are at work and the company is ready to open as soon as calm is restored.

Cableway company initially said that visitors would still be able to make use of the cableway, but the situation has changed.
