'We believe we can overturn Prasa contract' - Popo Molefe

Prasa (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) is taking action against the supplier of the locomotives, Swifambo Rail Leasing. Prasa has applied to the High Court to have a R5 Billion contract with Swifambo set aside

Prasa Chairman, Popo Molefe, on Monday spoke to Stephen Grootes about how this contract came about and the next course of action.

We''ll let the court prove corruption. What is clear to us is that this was established especially for this contract. The evidence proves that.

In our annual report the auditor-general also said that there were some substantial issues with Swifambo. Together with the Public Protector's findings, it became clear that the board had no choice but to act on this.

Victor Dlamini, Prasa spokesperson

...We launched our bid to the high court to set aside this contract because we believe that it flouts many of the covenants of the Public Protector Act and the law of South Africa.
