Talk Radio 702 presents:
30 YEARS IN CONCERT - AIR SUPPLY TO TOUR SOUTH AFRICA

Australian superstars Air Supply will be returning to South Africa in September 2007 for a very overdue visit!

Vocalist Russell Hitchcock and guitarist/vocalist Graham Russell have sold over 30 million records and dominated charts worldwide on the back of smash hits such as ‘Lost In Love’, ‘All Out Of Love’, ‘Even The Nights Are Better’, ‘The One That You Love’, ‘Sweet Dreams’, ‘Making Love Out Of Nothing At All’ and ‘The Power of Love’ – to mention but a few!

Air Supply’s remaining popularity in this market is evident by sales of their Ultimate Collection CD/DVD package released earlier this year, which achieved gold status within a couple of weeks of release.

To celebrate their continuing regard by South African fans, as well as 30 years in concert, Talk Radio 702 is very proud to present Air Supply performing live in Gauteng.

Dex de Bruin , Group Marketing Manager, Primedia Broadcasting said, “Air Supply was a massive success in the 80s with so many hits we are all familiar with, and many 702 listeners will remember the band from when we were a music station. It is a privilege for us to be able to welcome Air Supply back to Gauteng as many of their songs feature highly on the station's popular Solid Gold weekend music playlist".

On Friday 7 th and Saturday 8 th September 2007, fans will be able to see Air Supply perform live at The Big Top Arena, Carnival City, Gauteng.

The history of Air Supply began when a young Englishman, Graham Russell, met a young Australian, Russell Hitchcock, whilst rehearsing the stage musical Jesus Christ Superstar in 1975. They soon learned that they had a similar love for all things involving music.

Soon after, the guys could be found singing and playing in Sydney pubs for next to nothing as far as money goes, but for a wealth experience. Graham and Russell found that the crowds were amazingly receptive to their harmonious sound and style of soft rock ballads.

In 1980 an album entitled Lost In Love was released in the USA containing three songs that would hit the top five on US charts. By the mid 1980s, Air Supply was one of the most successful music acts in the world. The latter half of the ‘80s saw Air Supply continue their successful run of worldwide hits: The Power Of Love, Lonely Is The Night, One More Chance, It’s Never Too Late and Yours Truly dominated radio stations around the world.

At the end of the decade, the band took a much-needed break. Russell released a self-titled solo album, which included the single Swear To Your Heart.

Air Supply regrouped in the early 90’s releasing the album The Earth Is and the single Without You. In 1997, Graham Russell released his solo album, The Book Of Love, the first album to be recorded at his own studio in Utah.

The new millennium yielded the releases of Yours Truly and Across the Concrete Sky, along with countless Hits compilations around the world. In July 2005, Air Supply smashed attendance records in Cuba, at one show playing to an audience of 175 000! A live DVD, It Was 30 Years Ago Today, celebrated 30 years of success around the world.

Some people might ask how long Air Supply will continue to record and tour. Other bands and musicians have called it quits by now. However, Russell once said (and Graham nodded in agreement), “If it comes to the point where it isn't fun anymore, we’ll just pack it in”.

Luckily for their many fans, it must still be a whole lot of fun for the guys!

Some interesting facts:

* Air Supply was proclaimed the most successful pop group in the 1980s by Billboard Magazine.
* In the 1980s, Air Supply claimed eight top five singles, four multi-platinum albums and their Greatest Hits album achieved 7 x platinum.
* Air Supply's chart topping singles ‘Lost in Love’ and ‘All Out of Love’ both sold over 2 million copies.
* Air Supply was named the "Best Pop Rock Group of 1981" by the American Music Awards.
* Air Supply's first six consecutive singles all went to the top five, making them only the third group to reach such a plateau in the history of recorded music (the other two are the Beatles and Madonna). The singles are: ‘All Out of Love’, ‘Here I Am’, ‘Lost in Love’, ‘The One That You Love’, ‘Making Love Out of Nothing At All’ and ‘Sweet Dreams’.
