My name is Bernadette Lau, I am 16years and I am a learner from Glenvista High School and I am a debutante for the Catholic Chinese Welfare Association. I am currently raising funds for the Catholic Chinese Welfare Association, which after the Debutantes Ball will distribute the funds to various charity organizations, the bulk of the fund going to the Hong Ning Old Age Home, which is a non-profit organization and does not receive any subsidy/funding from the government. The old age home gets its funds mostly from donations, fund-raising, and generosity from the public.

This year’s theme, FLAME, invited entrants to design a prototype of a candle holder, lamp or oil burner - anything that can hold or enhance a flame. The theme elicited a wide and exciting range of interpretations, with the standard of work being consistently high. Prototypes were to equally prioritise functionality as well as aesthetic appeal.
