Make money with farming (no land or dirty hands required)

(Also read: "No land, or farming skills? Got R8000? Here’s how to own cattle…")

We’ve built systems that are really good at micromanaging this kind of thing… We’ve built a full Internet of Things capability… There’s a lot of technology behind the scenes…

We’ve identified another 12 asset classes that we’re keen on… But we’re not releasing anything for at least another six months…

Fedgroup is, to most South Africans, probably most well-known for its “Fedgroup Impact Farming” concept, and its TV adverts featuring a comical, though self-aware David Hasselhoff.

The concept allows anyone to invest – through an app on your phone – in blueberry bushes, solar farms and beehives.

Rather than doing the farming yourself, experienced farmers ensure you derive maximum income from your assets.

You need only R300 to own a blueberry bush, R5000 for a solar panel and R4000 for each beehive.

You can expect returns of 12% a year over the eight-year lifespan of a blueberry plant.

Over eight years, you will earn a total projected income of R600 per bush.

In the 20-year lifespan of a solar panel, you would receive a projected return of 10% a year (a total projected income of R14 500).

Fedgroup expects each beehive to earn R9000 over 10 years.

All your investments are insured so if, for example, a storm destroys your beehives, you don’t lose a cent.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Fedgroup CEO Grant Field for his weekly “ShapeShifter” feature.

Field – an engineer by training - has been with Fedgroup since 2002.

People don’t understand returns… We’re doing returns of between 12% and 15% per year…
