Now is the time for Cyril to stand up: British Parliamentarian

Lord Anthony St John of Bletso says investors in London are concerned about the latest political developments in South Africa, and that President Jacob Zuma may try to run for the third term.

He says there needs to be a far more transparent system of governance with checks and balances in place.

Xolani Gwala spoke to the 22nd Baron St John of Bletso during his live broadcast from London.

Lord Anthony is the deputy chairperson of all parties committee looking at Africa. He was a keynote speaker at the South African Chamber of Commerce Awards in London on Wednesday night.

Investors are not questioning the short to medium term in South Africa. Where is it going?

There needs to be a far more of a sense of understanding of the short to medium term policies of government.

He also says Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa needs to stand up and address concerns raised by the civil society.

He [Ramaphosa] was of course the architect to the South African Constitution. He's paid a pivotal role in the transition. He is highly respected by all facets of South Africa; business community, trade unions. Now is the time for Cyril to stand up.
