The 702 Truck of Love with Spar is out and about this week spreading lots of festive magic. This time around our fully loaded truck made a stop at the Hlalefang Alexandra Chess Club where we met Jonathan Maliboho who is passionate about enriching young people's lives through chess.
Jonathan Maliboho chats to Gugs
Founded in 2014, Hlalefang, which loosely translates to ‘intelligence’ in Sesotho, encourages school learners and senior citizens across Alexandra to partake in chess by teaching them the game and hosting various tournaments at all levels.
The biggest challenge we have is that we do not get the assistance and support we need to grow this initiative.— Jonathan Maliboho, Founder of Hlalefang Alexandra Chess Club
The organisation believes that chess serves as a powerful tool to encourage learners to focus on their academics, recreational commitments and make responsible decisions when faced with challenges.
To ensure that Hlalefang Alexandra Chess Club continues to reach even more young people across Alexandra and beyond, the 702 Truck of Love with Spar arrived with over 100 chess sets and brand new computer and printer to keep things running smooth at the chess club. We also added some food parcels and treats to sprinkle some much needed festive magic.
