ANC 2017 Elective Conference

Meeting underway at Luthuli House to address ANC missing votes

The ANC members who were not happy with the exclusion of the 63 or 68 votes at the party's elective conference are expected to meet at Luthuli House on Friday.

EWN reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo says it is currently not clear what the outcomes of the meeting are as all the lawyers involved are unavailable.

She says most of the unhappy delegates come from Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal.

I guess the real question is how do you have the election agency announcing 4776 people as legitimate voters but when you tally up the numbers for secretary general it only ads up to 4708...

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

Senzo Mchunu's supporters are saying there seems to be an arrangement that was made beforehand on who should be part of the top six in the interest of unity that was touted since the campaign process.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

Ngcobo says it is difficult to anticipate what solutions would be found to resolve this matter, but that if this matter is not resolved it could threaten the outcomes of conference. However, says she doesn't think that's the route the delegates want to take.

I think the disgruntled ANC members are reluctant to go to court that's why they wrote that letter to the steering committee, that's why they said they would like to find a political solution to this matter.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

I also don't think Ace Magashula's supporters would be happy to hear that he has been removed from that position.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

But what we know for sure is that these disgruntled members are upset and they want something to be done about the numbers.
