'Deliberately lying to Parliament carries a potential 2-year jail sentence'

Deliberately lying to Parliament carries with it a potential two-year jail sentence… If that is the finding she makes it will be the most serious finding ever made against a sitting president by a public protector.

Karyn Maughan, journalist - TimesLive

Public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa is implicated in her investigation into the R500 000 donation he received from Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson.

President Ramaphosa has, according to Mkhwebane, asked to cross-examine some of those she had interviewed, including DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

It was Maimane who requested her to investigate Ramaphosa.

Maimane accuses the public protector of not properly investigating the Gupta-linked Vrede dairy project scandal.

The DA wants Parliament to vote on her fitness to hold office.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Karyn Maughan, a journalist at TimesLive, who wrote an article about this on Wednesday.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

If Cyril Ramaphosa was leading a cohesive and unified ANC that was intent on good governance and ridding the government of corruption he would probably be facing a lot less of a problem…

Karyn Maughan, journalist - TimesLive

She’s been subjected to quite damning court judgements… The outcome… will be subjected to legal scrutiny…

Karyn Maughan, journalist - TimesLive

The level of legal challenges she’s facing is unprecedented…
