State Capture Inquiry

[LISTEN] 'It is clear Duduzane Zuma was the middleman between State and Guptas'

The Zondo Commission into the State of Capture is underway in Parktown in Johannesburg.

Chaired by Chief Justice Ray Zondo, the commission is looking into the state of capture by the notorious Gupta family and allegation of their influence of former President Jacob Zuma.

The commission has heard testimonies from former deputy minister of finance Mcebisi Jonas who was offered a ministerial position and R600 million by the Guptas.

Former government spokesperson Themba Maseko also testified that he was ordered to channel government advertising to The New Age (TNA) newspaper which was owned by the Gupta family.

To understand the testimonies submitted at the commission so far, Eusebius McKaiser spoke to an investigative journalist at the Mail & Guardian Thanduxolo Jika who is following proceedings closely.

From the testimonies coming out from Jonas, Maseko, Mentor and Williams, they are painting a picture that we had raised as journalists in all articles how procurement processes were floated.

It brings the issue closer to home to President Zuma. That the son seems to have been the middleman between the state and the Guptas.

It gives a picture and explains why the Guptas were particularly interested in taking Duduzane Zuma to become of their directors. Clearly, he was the one facilitating these meeting and making calls.
