'Gupta media houses received R260 million from doing business with the state'

The Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture has heard how GCIS paid R260-million to Gupta-linked media companies between 2011 and 2018.

Accounting officer at National Treasury Jan Gilliland has presented evidence before the commission, detailing some of the orders and payments made by the government department.

Eyewitness News reporter Gia Nicolaides has more on the story.

We looked at two companies, that is TNA and Infinity media. The total is sitting at R260 million between 2011 and 2018.

What advocate Maleka for the commission has tried to say is, they will be arguing that huge amounts of money was paid to the TNA and New Age breakfasts during this particular time. What he says is you would think that with a television platform as such, that more money would be put in there but ultimately it was pumped into the print side, the TNA side...
