Lawyers for JZ say he will cooperate with state capture inquiry

Former president Jacob Zuma’s lawyers issued a statement on Thursday afternoon to insist that he would cooperate with the state capture inquiry.

Zuma’s lawyers hit back at Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, saying that his request for Zuma to respond to the evidence against him was “unfortunate”.

Zondo had invited the former president to respond to specific allegations made against him in the hearings, reports legal journalist Karyn Maughan.

His lawyers claim that Zuma's election not to cross-examine the witnesses who implicated him has been "misuderstood" as non cooperation‚ Maughan explains.

They find the invitation extended by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo "unfortunate".
