State Capture Inquiry

EFF 'deliberately feeding the public with disinformation.' - Ferial Haffajee

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan spent a second day in the witness stand at the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture on Tuesday.

He spoke of a 'fightback' that is fighting against corruption by those engaged in malfeasance.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) joined by Black Land First (BLF) picketed outside the commission throughout Gordhan's testimony.

Associate Editor at Daily Maverick Ferial Haffajee says they have been trying to understand why the EFF is no longer in support of Gordhan.

So this is the political party that gave us the excellent slogan #PayBackTheMoney and if you want to give a similar hashtag to the Zondo Commission of inquiry you might call it #FollowTheMoney because that is what the commission has embarked on, and understanding how state capture happened and how we as a country lost billions of rands.

So to witness the EFF's politics of destruction over the past two days has been quite perplexing and I think the minister [Gordhan] begins to put his finger on it when he says it is a very organised campaign and a fight against a much broader fight back against the anti-corruption drive that we are currently in the middle of.

Haffajee says the EFF is deliberately feeding the public with 'disinformation.'

Addressing Julius Malema's roll call of journalists he claims are part of a 'Ramaphosa Defence Force', Haffajee says she was taken aback at having been named alongside others including Ranjeni Munusamy, Max du Preez, and Pierre de Vos.

The dangerous thing of what happens when he calls journalists, Stratcom or 'the defence force', it is picked up by an EFF army who spreads this message thousands of times.
