Random Acts of Kindness with Dis-Chem

Dis-Chem Foundation donates trampolines to help autistic children

There are many organisations within our communities that are doing great work to help those in need and the Dis-Chem Foundation is one.

As part of Dis-Chem Foundation's 'Random Act of Kindness' initiative, the Randburg Clinic School is the proud recipient of two trampolines, therapy room equipment to the value of R15 000 and R50 000 towards transport.

The school caters to pupils that are primarily diagnosed with autism and with severe behavioural difficulties.

702's Joanne Joseph speaks to head of therapy at the school Ashka Govendor and Dis-chem Foundation's Sherry Saltzman.

We cater for pupils with behavioural disorders, but the majority of our pupils have autism. We try to help them manage their frustrations and assist in modifying their behaviour

For the children that have autism, they require structure, they learn visually rather than verbally, and we provide the structure necessary for them to learn according to their maximum potential.

Saltzman says because of the work that the Randburg Clinic School does, Dis-Chem Foundation visited the facilities.

One of the things that stuck out for me was that there was only one trampoline in the entire school which was quite a shock considering that autistic children need to jump a lot as a form of learning.

Sherry Saltzman - Dis-Chem Foundation

The Dis-Chem Foundation is going to equip the school with two big trampolines. We are going to give the therapy room equipment to the value of R15 000 and R50 000 towards a transport programme.
